Modern Musing
The Modern Quilting Movement has opened up a new genre of quilt design appealing to so many who strive to push the boundaries of creativity.
Sometimes it can be struggle to find quilt designs that have a contemporary and modern feel, that fit into the trends of today's design elements. Of course, fabric choice is a fundamental factor that gives a quilt its unique character, exclusive beauty and individual quality.
Whether fresh and vibrant or subdued and elegant, I endeavor to design quilt patterns that fit into todays contemporary, modern décor and to compliment the present while maintaining the integrity of the time honored art of quilting.
Hello, my name is Lynn and I love to quilt! I am not sure what draws me more, the love of fabric and the sheer joy it can bring to the eye and heart, the community quilting creates, the relationships it builds amongst like minded hoarders of fabric, or the creative expression of designing something personal and unique.
I have been sewing as long as I can remember. Long before I hit high school (where most of us were introduced to this addictive art), my mom pretty much gave me free range to use her Singer sewing machine. Ironically, I did not excel in "home economics" (I am probably dating myself by using that term) as I was too set in my ways by the age of 14. My teacher was not impressed.
I was introduced to quilting in one of my favorite courses in high school called Textiles Arts and Crafts. I couldn't believe my luck: being able to get a high school credit and be able to explore this amazing world of textiles. I remember my first quilt. Instead of choosing one of the patterns available, mostly traditional block configurations, I was determined to design my own pattern...a unicorn frolicking in a meadow under a rainbow....really.🙄
Over the next few decades my skills, and taste, have matured. I appreciate the complexity and precision of traditional quilt designs, however, my eye has always been drawn to the simplistic elegance of the contemporary style of modern quilt designs.
I love to give quilts as gifts. However, I sometimes hesitate because we all know what kind of though, love, talent and work goes into making this incredibly special gift only to have it put in a closet or a place so it wont get "ruined." Quilts are meant to be used in my opinion . That is why I strive to create quilt patterns that fit into the contemporary and modern designs of todays décor. I want to see my quilts on someone's sofa or used to cuddle up while watch a movie or even to make a fort.
I excited to share my quilt patterns with you as I start out on this new adventure of pattern publishing. Stay tuned....more designs to come....
